Changes to Individual Amended Return, Form 1040X
July 22, 2010 – 12:59 pmThe federal Form 1040X was recently changed. Instead of three columns (Original amount, Net change, and Correct amount), the new form only has the Correct Amount column. The entries in this column represent entries the taxpayer would have made on the original return had it been done correctly. The key is to include the original refund or original balance due when preparing Form 1040X.
TaxWorks incorporated the new Form 1040X in the 2009 program. The IRS has stated that it will continue to process older versions of Form 1040X which are found in software versions prior to 2009.
